Quick-seared Brussels Sprouts with Garlic

Preparation:

  • Get your pan hot and put about 1 tablespoon of organic olive oil into it.  Sear the raw garlic (see details about garlic's health benefits).  Soon thereafter, dump in the Brussels sprouts--prepare these simply by cutting off the stem and dividing them in half lengthwise as shown in the photo.

  • Your total start to finish time on this is about 10 minutes.  The goal is not to cook the sprouts to mush; just turn them bright green then cook for an additional minute and they are ready.  With a little practice, you'll know how to get the dish just to your liking; but remember the goal is to keep it as lightly cooked as possible. *Do not overcook cruciferous vegetables because doing so greatly reduces the anti-cancer phytonutrient content.*

  • You might need to add about 1/4 cup of water and steam the sprouts with a lid on to get them just right.  Remember: about 5 minutes of high-temp cooking is plenty!

Serving Recommendations:

  • In a bowl alone, or as a side-dish of a larger meal.
