Wine is rich in phytonutrients with anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective benefits!

Dr Vasquez's introduction: This page is just getting started!  Soon it will contain "news you can use" about wine--the tasting, the growing, the regions, the grapes and all that kind of stuff.

Which is the best wine?  The best wine is the wine that you like.  I once had dinner with a former wine editor for Connoisseur magazine; he told me,

"Any fool can buy a great wine for $100,

but it takes skill and knowledge to buy a great wine for $10."

Likewise, the emphasis of this page will be to "keep it real" and mostly talk about practical information that is relevant for the enjoyment and appreciation of wine.

Wine is meant for one purpose: enjoyment.  More specifically, it is made for your enjoyment.  This is an important concept to grasp since most conversations about wine seem to emphasize other extraneous ideas such as cost, grape, region, year, etc--all of these latter things are superficial an irrelevant to your taste buds.  What matters to your palate is the taste of the wine to you.

Learning about wine helps you understand and articulate the nuances of the various types of wine, and this ability to appreciate wine will add to your enjoyment of it.  So let's talk a bit about wine then, shall we?  Here are some notes I've compiled while learning about wine, particularly from Stuart Walton's "World Encyclopedia of Wine."

  • Brief wine history: Wines have been valued for thousands of year for their unique tastes and aromas which serve as fingerprints of the years, grapes, regions, and weather in which the grapes were grown and the means by which they were processed.  Wines are generally better and more affordable now more so than in any previous time in history...
